February Update

Hello friends, family, and prayer warriors!

Thank you so much for reading my blog, praying, and partnering with me in campus ministry.  I wouldn’t get to be on campus and take part in what God is doing in Denton without you.

February has been filled sweet stories that make me so grateful to be a part of this community of college students excited to know Jesus. Check out the month so far below!

Pizza Theology

Some of my core group: Me, Sarah, Jazmine, Savannah, Kadie, and Madison

Once each semester, we have a special event called Pizza Theology. Students from all of our campuses meet to dive deep (for 4 hours!) into a topic related to faith and of course, eat pizza! This semester, we did a deep dive into how to think biblically about money. This topic is such an important one, especially to be able to help guide college students who will be able to dwell on what they learned and apply it relatively early on in life. Several of our campus pastors spoke and looked over the whole of Scripture. They covered topics like generosity, the fact that wisdom is nuanced, extravagance and temperance, freedom from the power of money, and even as practical as budgeting tips. The girls in my core and I really enjoyed it!

Black History Service

Praise Dance that left many of us in tears

Worship

In honor of Black History Month, Keanna (one of our staff members) and many of the black students in our ministry put on a very special event for us. We were able to have a Black History Church Service! The students prepared gospel worship songs with a gospel choir to lead us in praise, they prepared poems and stories to share, and cooked food for us all to enjoy. I am so honored that we have so many students who were so brave to share their experiences and remind us the beauty that we are all children of God, a Lord who created and loves diversity, and how we are one in Christ. As written in Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

We were even interrupted by a fire alarm and had to go outside for a little while, but that did not stop everyone from continuing to sing in the 20 degree cold and worship Jesus! What a beautiful sight!

Other Fun Things!

Jenna’s Birthday!! (a sweet girl in my peer team, who leads a core and I get to meet with every week)

Uche printed ~70 copies of these Valentine’s Day cards to pass out during one TNF!

Murphie’s (one of my roommates, in the middle) Bridal Shower!

Prayer Requests

- Pray for the students to have a restful and safe spring break!
- Pray for students who are finishing or starting Focus on Jesus (FOJ) Bible studies, that they may come to know the character of God and decide to follow Him.
- Pray for us as we prepare to host students from a college ministry called Chi Alpha up in Washington State, who are coming here for their spring break to do outreach on our campuses. Pray the Lord moves in big ways!

Thank you for your generous support and making it possible to raise up this new generation of disciples. Your imitation of God’s faithfulness is bearing fruit! As always, please reach out if you have any prayer requests, questions or comments.

With love,
Cathryn
