Fall Retreat: Finding Beauty in the Ordinary

Hello there!

We had an incredible Fall Retreat weekend, the biggest in Denton Fall Retreat history! Over 270 students came together to build friendships, compete in our Camp Cup tournament, hear wisdom from our beloved Pastor Ronnie Worsham, be moved by the testimonies of their peers, lift their voices in worship, and learn more about what it looks like to trust God through it all.

I could write pages, but a picture (or a large handful) is worth a thousand words. (Disclaimer: we got some goofy goobers this year.)

One thing I didn’t quite capture in a photo was Sunday morning. There’s something sacred about mornings like these. Waking up in a room full of bunk beds and snoozed alarms, smoothing out your bed head, stepping outside into the crisp air and sunlight, and gathering around long wooden picnic tables with bowls of Reese’s Puffs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch in hand. It’s so ordinary. Yet so beautiful.

That morning I got to chat with a girl named Sophia. She had the biggest smile! I learned that she is a jazz music major and got plugged into a core just the week before. The night before retreat, Sophia received a call from Kenzie who invited her to pack her bags and join a group of strangers in getting to know Jesus better. Sophia shared how thankful she was to have met us, and how nice everyone was to her. It’s so simple, yet extraordinary. I am excited for how the Lord will continue to meet students like Sophia in the ordinary and change their lives!

That is one of the many reasons why I love retreats. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know I say it in every blog, but it never feels like enough. The Lord is making Himself known to these students, and they get to experience His love more and more deeply.

We have one month left until the end of the fall semester! And that means…

Keep FOCUS Growing!

Our goal is to raise $73,000 to support FOCUS and allow us to continue planting at new community colleges and universities in the DFW area. This is an exciting campaign! We will be sharing students’ stories all throughout the month, so stay tuned for those at the link below!

Learn more and give today:

Please be praying for KFG, that we would continue to be good stewards of the people the Lord has entrusted to us, and that our students may grow in faith, as the only thing that counts is faith expressed through love! (Gal. 5:6)

Talk to you soon :)

With love,

Cathryn
